“A Powerful and Deeply Moving Read”  Barbara Geiger, author of Paddling for a Purpose

Revelation at the Labyrinth is a powerful and deeply moving story of inner strength, spirituality, community and healing. Members of the Magnificent and Marvelous Book Club (the MAMs) put the ideas they learn through reading into action, deciding to start a re-entry organic farm, offering women a fresh start upon release from incarceration. Author Nancy Flinchbaugh compassionately includes themes of social justice, sustainability, redemption and forgiveness as she expertly weaves together the stories of the relationships among the MAMs and residents of the FARM. As the characters learn about one another, themselves and the world, despite their complicated histories, we learn right along with them.

I found myself riveted by the struggles of Flinchbaugh’s two main characters, Molly and Thomaseena. Molly, a member of the MAMs Book Club, works through her own journey with breast cancer, as Thomaseena attempts to start anew and reunite with her children after being unjustly sentenced to prison for killing her husband in self-defense. I became so invested in these women that I found myself in tears at the resolution of their story.

Together, the MAMs and the women of the FARM help each other to heal and grow through many different spiritual paths, including labyrinth walks, meditation, Twelve Steps, Scripture, writing, and prayer. Nancy Flinchbaugh honors each character and each path with sensitivity and understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Inspiring exploration of faith and friendship – Alice Benson, author

This is a touching and inspiring book that includes a great deal of important information about many critical and thought-provoking issues of our day, including domestic violence, alcoholism, climate change, and the criminal justice system. The MAMs, the Magnificent and Marvelous Book Club, are a group of women who love and support each other through life’s sometimes challenging times. In addition to taking care of each other, they reach out to others by starting an organic farm for women being released from prison. The farm gives women a place to start over, to heal, to find themselves, and to discover a way to move forward with their lives.

The book is by turns profound, loving, inspiring, and touching. The well-crafted plot weaves a variety of issues and themes that keep the reader moving through a story that’s fascinating and engaging. A great deal of interesting and timely information is provided, but the author never lectures. The variety of characters and situations they move through are engrossing and enlightening.

The strong, realistic characters are compelling as they engage with each other and work their way through discussions and disagreements in a courteous and loving way. It made me wish we could all learn to treat each other this respectfully all the time.

Her book Revelation at the Labyrinth captures a story of healing that resonates with all of us.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________

These books written by my friend, Nancy, are worth reading for their  spiritual messages, for the efforts and gifts the friends she creates bring to one another and our earth, and simply as “good reads”.  I valued that her characters were diverse in many ways, but especially in political opinion, and that they had tolerance of others.  So often we think our political opinion is the gospel truth, when only the Gospel is the gospel truth.  I especially admired the strength of the MAMS’ goodness in helping the addicted, women getting out of prison, clean farming practices, and bringing light to the darkness that is part of lives.  They did not give up on one another and neither should we.  Nancy’s storytelling brings hope to God’s creation and to our individual lives.  – Bonnie Yeager
